PARIS — For his debut runway collection in Paris, the Lebanese designer Rabih Kayrouz cleverly used a small venue that had the front row inches away from the catwalk.
This up-close-and-personal encounter made it easier to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of dresses sliced open in curving cuts and held together with delicate pearls, or form-fitting knit gowns that elegantly undulated from almost transparent stitches to opaque black folds.
The designer’s focus on clothing that enveloped and caressed the body made the collection feel utterly modern, while the feather embellishments worked into the folds of tunic tops and the arcing “torn” fabric on a velvet dress added a romantic undercurrent to this fine first show.
