A crown from the Givenchy Haute Couture show. (catwalking.com)

What do High School Musical’s sugar sweet star Vanessa Hudgens and Givenchy’s dark and daring designer Riccardo Tisci have in common? They made it cool again to tap into that deep seeded desire to top off an outfit with a modern day crown.

Those that follow Ms. Hudgens lead will wear their crowns of colorful fabrics and shimmering ribbons woven into lose locks, in an updated hippy chic style.

While the “take no prisoners” attitude of the metal thorns or pyramid studs of a Givenchy crown are the antithesis of girly.

No matter which way you decide to wear a crown it has to be with conviction. We might have had to give up our Cinderella hoop skirt dresses and our glass slippers when we went out into the work place but no one is fool enough to try and separate a woman from her crown. And best of all- no prince charming required.
