Alexandre Vauthier is seeing red. His entire collection, save the bride, was a study of the crimson color. The designer was apparently inspired by the Rouge Baiser images by René Gruau and the Italian maestro Valentino (who also had a thing for the sanglant shade). But when the first stiff shouldered fitted neoprene outfit hit the runway the reference to the style of Thierry Mugler was hard to miss.
As the show progressed the designer soften up his silhouette showing fluid dresses and jumpsuits that draped about the body. Sometimes the liquid
fabric was sliced back to expose match red lingerie or paired with a fire engine red fur stole. But there again the 70s Halston vibe oozed through. There was nothing wrong with the collection, in fact the Mr. Vauthier is sure to fine a bevy of beautiful woman who will want to be one of his she-devils. But with so many designer allusion inflaming the outfits Mr. Vauthier’s own voice got lost in the blaze.
